For many years I thought that healing and growth meant controlling my thoughts and emotions in order to be a more positive person. I tried to "choose" my emotions and manage them. What I didn’t realize was that using tools to try be my ideal version of myself only reinforced the idea that I wasn’t “good enough”. I realized after over a decade of trying to force myself to be an ideal, better version of myself, that there was another way. I learned that it is when we give compassion to the parts of ourselves that we might judge as “bad” and meet those shadow parts with compassion and acceptance, that deep and lasting change begins to happen. I began to accept the present, imperfect version of me, with all of my messy emotions. Through this self-acceptance, I noticed that I began to transform in deeper and more lasting ways. Now I support my clients to experience this profound shift. I’m here to assist my clients with unlearning the idea that their is a version of them "out there" that they need to become, and to instead, gently explore how it might be to offer love and compassion to this present-tense version. I believe that fundamentally, you are enough. And that the painful beliefs and thoughts that cause us suffering can be unlearned so that we can excavate our true and essential Self.
My training:
I began to study yoga, meditation and eastern spirituality when I was fourteen years old. I eventually attended Naropa University in 2000 and went on to receive my B.A. in Liberal Arts from California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). I later received a year of training at CIIS in Somatic Counseling Psychology. I attended several professional trainings in Hakomi Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Family Constellations, Nonviolent Communication and IFS Therapy. I eventually received my master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Highlands University here in New Mexico.
I am Level 1 trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and I am a Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication. In addition to the modalities mentioned, I also have a background in attachment-based relating, DBT Therapy and Jungian Therapy. I use mindfulness-based tools as well as a variety of approaches from my decades of training aimed at getting to the client's deeper layers, to allow for real change to occur.
I have taught Nonviolent Communication (NVC) at learning centers throughout California, Oregon, New Mexico and India. In my workshops, I combine NVC skill building with my background in psychology, play, movement, mindfulness, and earth-based practices.
My goal is to create an atmosphere where you experience deep acceptance. I am inclusive of diverse populations, LGBTQ+ persons, BIPOC communities and I integrate my commitment to social justice into my therapy practice. I am the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and am a proficient Spanish-speaker.
