I began to study yoga, meditation and eastern spirituality when I was fourteen years old. From a young age, something felt "off" about how the world worked and I struggled. I wanted to live a life that was authentic and in alignment with my values, but the world seemed to want me to disconnect from my feelings and shut down. My quest for healing and growth took me around the globe to study meditation, eastern philosophy, bodywork, permaculture, sustainable building and various forms of emotional healing. It was important to me to face the challenges of the world, so I worked in non-profits, mental health agencies, schools and other programs for high-risk populations.
After all that I've experienced, the most important thing my journey has taught me is that by accepting and befriending my painful emotions and the parts of myself that I used to try to "get over", that this very acceptance transforms the pain. I learned that, instead of relentlessly seeking to improve myself, I could love the "here and now" version of me, just as I am. And it's this deep self-acceptance that has allowed me to heal. I have a kind inner-voice today, one that allows me to make mistakes, have big feelings and learn as I go. And best of all, I've connected to my true and essential Self.
I attended Naropa University in 2000 and completed my bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in 2005. I studied Somatic Psychotherapy at CIIS from 2007-2008 and attended various professional trainings in Hakomi Psychotherapy, Jungian Therapy, Gestalt, Family Constellations, Nonviolent Communication and IFS Therapy between 2008-2018. I received an M.A. in Clinical Social Work at Highlands University in 2020.
I am extensively trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy through the 6-month IFS Institute Level-1 Program and have had over 50 hours of workshop training with Richard Schwartz, the founder of IFS Therapy. I became a Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication (cnvc.org) in 2022, after almost 20 years of practicing and studying NVC. In addition to the modalities mentioned above, I also have a background in attachment theory, CBT Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I use mindfulness-based tools as well as creative approaches from my decades of training aimed at getting to the client's deeper layers, to allow for real change to occur.
I have been teaching Nonviolent Communication at various learning centers throughout California, Oregon, New Mexico and India since 2007. In my workshops, I combine NVC skill-building with all of the tools that have helped me grow- including psychology, creative writing, movement, mindfulness, somatic awareness, ritual and earth-based practices.
I am the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and a proficient Spanish-speaker. I am inclusive of diverse populations, LGBTQ+ persons, BIPOC communities and I integrate my commitment to social justice into my therapy practice.
